Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) is an independent safety certification organisation. Founded in 1894 and based in Northbrook, Underwriters Laboratories develops standards and tests for products, materials, components and instruments, especially in relation to safety. UL also evaluates and certifies production efficiency of companies by means of a management analysis programme. The South Bend site is home to the beverages and drinking water analysis laboratory, while the UL Environment branch assess products from an environmental sustainability perspective. UL is one of the companies approved by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to carry out these safety tests.

Is an organisation founded in Germany in 1893 under the name Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker (VDE); it is the largest scientific-technical association in Europe.
In 2018, it had 36,000 members (with 1,300 companies) and 1,600 employees.
VDE combines science, standardisation and testing. VDE operates in the fields of testing, inspection and certification for consumer protection.
In 2018 UNE Srl was certified by VDE as a further guarantee of quality and consumer protection
Since 2017, UNE Srl, which was already ISO 9001:2008 compliant, has transitioned to ISO 9001:2015 in place of the previous standard.
The standard specifies the requirements of a quality management system when an organisation:
a) needs to demonstrate its ability to regularly provide products or services that meet the requirements of customers and the applicable mandatory prescriptions; and
b) aims to increase customer satisfaction through effective application of the system, including processes for improving the system and ensuring compliance with customer requirements and the applicable mandatory requirements.
